Critical Hire Approval Process

In response to a directive from the Governor’s Office dated March 19, 2008, hiring other than faculty will be limited to positions considered mission critical. This action is being taken to limit discretionary spending by state agencies resulting from the slowdown in state revenue collections.

Effective immediately and until further notice, a "Request for Approval to Fill Critical Personnel Vacancy" must be prepared, authorized through the appropriate division head, and submitted to the Office of Human Resources prior to any personnel action being taken. This form should accompany the "Employment Request for Classified Positions" form prepared for all requests to begin the recruitment process.

Justification should address any and all reasons for a critical need to fill the position. Examples might include:

Internal Operations: No staff available to prepare accounts payable checks

Customer Service: No personnel available to process applications

Financial: Revenue for fall semester will be impacted because vacancy in recruiting personnel

The President will be the final approving authority for all requests.
