Purpose:
Reporting to the President, the Vice
President for Student Affairs provides leadership for non-academic student life
and all activities related to enrollment, retention, and the improvement of
graduation rates. Areas of responsibility include admissions, registrar,
financial aid, counseling, career planning and placement, student testing,
student housing, and student activities.
Nature of Work:
Essential Functions
- Plan, organize, and administer a comprehensive program
of student services, activities, and development.
- Supervise all student co-curricula activities.
- Direct the activities of the offices of Student
Government and Student Activities; Veterans Affairs; Counseling and Testing;
and recommend to the President policy formulations in these areas.
- Supervise an effective program of testing, guidance,
and counseling.
- Lead in the development of an effective
living-learning environment in the College residence halls and supervise the
implementation of the program.
- Assist the faculty in administering the attendance
policy.
- Supervise the operation of the student government,
including the work of the student council, residence hall councils, and
other organized student groups, and initiate actions to strengthen these
areas of the college life.
- Prepare annually a Code of Conduct governing the
rights, responsibilities, and discipline of students at the institution and
present the same to the Student Affairs Committee for review and approval.
- Be responsible for administering the regulations
regarding student conduct adopted by the College; provide regular reports to
the faculty concerning student conduct; and initiate studies to develop more
effective ways to achieve high standards of student conduct.
- Revise annually and distribute to each student a
Student Handbook, containing the rules and regulations concerning student
life on the campus that have been adopted by the faculty and approved by the
President.
- Serve as an ex officio member of the student affairs
committee.
- Prepare and submit to the President for approval the
various budgets concerning student affairs and supervise the administration
of the approved budgets.
- Recommend to the President the appointment and
promotion of the members of the student affairs staff.
- Submit to the President an annual report of the
activities of the division of student affairs.
- Serve as the advisor to the President concerning
student life, keeping him/her fully informed at all times concerning trends
in College student life in general and at South Georgia College in
particular and assume any additional duties or responsibilities as may be
assigned by the President.

Required/Desired Education, Experience and
Necessary Qualifications:
An advanced
degree and a minimum of five years work experience is required.
Supervision:
The Vice
President of Student Affairs reports to the President.
