Purpose:

The Director of the Student Center and Intramurals provides programs and services designed to enhance student success at South Georgia College.  The Director provides for the successful operation of the Center as a place that increases positive student engagement in a safe and inviting atmosphere.  

Nature of Work:

Essential Functions

·        Assist students, college staff, and other members of the community with planning and implementing programs and services in the Clower Student Life Center that advance the mission of South Georgia College and are consistent with the goals of the Student Life staff.

·        Provide coverage for and develop a schedule of adequate staffing for the operation for the Student Life Center.

·        Assist with the implementation of Blackboard and other technology applications.

·        Give leadership to an Intramural Recreation program that meets the needs of a diverse student population.  Emphasis is placed on enhancing evening and weekend offerings.

·        Monitor student conduct, and enforce facility and campus rules.

·        Work with Continuing Education to schedule Clower facilities requests.

·        Assist with the selection and maintenance of recreational equipment.

·        Work with the student life staff to actively promote and supervise campus events such as socials, dances, club showcases, field day events, games, student interest seminars, contests, fund-raisers, trips, community service, and recreational competitions.

·        Assist the residence life staff with scheduled coverage, as needed.

·        Assist with summer and short-term camps.

·        Advise the Business Office on ways to enhance the café and business opportunities.

·        Present budgetary needs and enhancement proposals to the Director of Student Life.

·        Meet with groups and individuals to make plans for the appropriate use of the Center.

·        Assist with other student services functions, as assigned.

·        Assist with ongoing efforts to measure and improve program effectiveness.

·        Support college efforts to increase retention and graduation rates.

·        Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Life.

Required/Desired Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

·        Ability to maintain and keep records and to organize data in preparation of records and reports.

·        Proficiency in computer applications.

·        Ability to make and apply decisions in accordance with institutional policies.

·        Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the general public.

 

Required/Desired Education, Experience and Necessary Qualifications:

·        Completion of bachelor’s degree is desirable, as is successful work experience in planning and conducting college student activities, intramurals, and related efforts.

 

Supervision:

 

 

The Director of Student Center and Intramurals reports to the Director of Student Life who reports to the Vice President for Student Affairs. The Director of the Student Center will supervise assigned staff and student workers.
