Job Description
Working Title: Accounts Payable Clerk
Job Classification: Office/Clerical
FLSA Exemption: Non-Exempt
Department: Business Affairs
This is routine accounting work in the processing of accounts payable and other related duties.
· Prepares payables for payment by collecting and collating necessary and appropriate documents.
· Keys data into computerized accounting system for check preparation.
· Maintains checks and journal entries issued with back up information.
· Verifies travel regulation adherence on all travel expense vouchers. Calculates and verifies mathematical accuracy of same vouchers.
· Prepares and keys general journal entries as necessary.
· Receives warehouse supplies information from Physical Plant and keys data into computerized accounting system to distribute expense.
· Receives school vehicle usage information from Physical Plant and keys data into computerized accounting system to distribute expense.
· Maintains appropriate files and records regarding encumbrance of and payments against contracts and leases.
· Reports to work as scheduled by immediate supervisor.
· Performs routine clerical functions as related to position.
· Serves as back up for Cashier and Post Office.
· Assists the Business Office with registration.
· Performs other job-related duties as requested by the supervisor.
· Considerable knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment, including personal computer.
· Considerable knowledge of bookkeeping principles and procedures.
· Ability to apply bookkeeping principles to maintain routine fiscal and accounting records.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
· Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
· Skill in operation of keyboard, calculator, and related office equipment
· High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate or technical degree in Accounting or Bookkeeping preferred; two-three years work experience in bookkeeping and related clerical work required; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Supervision:
The Accounting Clerk reports to the Director of Business Services.
