Job Description
Working Title: Skilled Trades Worker
Job Classification: Maintenance
FLSA Exemption: Non-Exempt
Department: Physical Plant
The position is a general maintenance position that reports to the Skills Trades Shop Coordinator. Responsibilities include minor repairs and maintenance of painting, glass repairs, minor plumbing, carpentry, furniture, windows, doors, locks and other building systems.
· Maintain and repair windows, doors, floors, walls, stairs and walkways.
· Fabricate and install shelving, bookcases, cabinets, and other miscellaneous carpentry items.
· Repair desks, tables, chairs and other furniture.
· Repair ceiling grids and install ceiling tile as required.
· Prepare surfaces for painting including washing, taping, patching, sanding and provide finish coat after preparation.
· Repair broken windows.
· Maintain and repair other related trade work including but not limited to roofing, masonry, sheet metal, etc.
· Maintain other repairs, including carpet and tile, as required.
· Inspect for and report any deficiencies or failures in all systems including carpentry, masonry, flooring, painting and other trade work.
· Make minor plumbing and piping repairs.
· Assisting in special set-ups (commencement, fund-raising events, organizations, etc.) and other miscellaneous tasks.
· Assist in shop material inventories
· Prepare signs
· Install and repair bathroom hardware including paper and towel dispensers.
· Assist in the installation of hardware items including closures, panic bars, and locks.
· Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions
· Ability to perform tasks for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.
· Analyze certain jobs and select and inventory stock and material used.
· Purchase material occasionally.
· Ability to work with minimal supervision
· Must have valid Georgia driver’s license.
· High School Diploma or GED required
· Plumbing license or ability to obtain ( preferred).
· 2-3 years experience in working with at least 2 building trades.
· Knowledge of computer is desirable. Must have a thorough knowledge of how to use shop power tools.
· Operate machinery safely and efficiently.
· Ability to work within the overall organization of the Physical Plant Department and work with other skilled trades personnel, administrators and external agencies.
Supervision:
The Skilled Trades Worker reports to the Director of Physical Plant and Public Safety.
