Working Title: Lead Electrician

Purpose
Working at a Non-Restricted license level position performing skilled tasks in accordance with standard trade and code practices in the installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of three-phase, single-phase and low-voltage electrical systems, equipment and fixtures.
Nature of Work
Essential Duties
Install, maintain and repair a wide variety of electrical power and lighting equipment and systems in a timely and cost efficient manner. Work includes maintaining, installing, troubleshooting, emergency lighting, data, communications, card access, alarm and surveillance systems. Insures long-term reliability of the equipment with good preventative maintenance scheduling and follow-up. Meet all safety and applicable code standards when performing these duties.
Install, repair, diagnose and maintain food service appliances and equipment.
Plan and lay out work logically, efficiently and thoroughly.
Conform to industry standards concerning safety, lock out - Tag out, inspections, and operations when dealing with high and low voltage systems. Maintain high consciousness of safety for all personnel and areas involved.
Supplies support and administration by maintaining good records and documents, accurately and neatly. Reviews and maintains close surveillance of outside electrical contractors to insure that they perform all duties in a timely and cost efficient manner, complying with appropriate codes, drawings and specifications. Keeps inventories neat and accurate. Provides estimates as directed.
Maintain good intercommunication between departments and other shop personnel and maintain good customer relations when dealing with the campus community.
Reports to work as scheduled by immediate supervisor.
Ability to climb 90 feet high sports lighting poles and diagnose and maintain 460 volt, three-phase lighting systems.
Must be able to calculate, design and apply electrical loads as per NEC guidelines.
Must be able and willing to do manual labor, easily climb and work from ladders for maintenance of street lighting, interior and exterior lighting; operate and work from a fifty foot boom bucket truck.
Occasional after normal work hours or event driven attendance required.
Marginal Duties
Assists the Electrical Shop Supervisor in the planning and coordination of daily operations.
Occasionally assists the heating, ventilating and air conditioning personnel.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required/Desired Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
Must be reliable, accurate and neat, assuring quality workmanship with self motivation and high production standards.
Considerable knowledge of standard practices, use of materials, test equipment, tools and equipment of the electrical trade.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and electrical systems safety.
Knowledge of local, state and National Electrical Codes.
Familiar with the use and application of computers and computer systems.
Ability to understand and follow oral and or written instructions.
Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprint drawings and wiring diagrams.
Skill in locating, diagnosing, correcting defects in electrical systems and equipment.
Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment of electrical systems.
Required/Desired Education, Experience and Necessary Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Non-Restricted State Contractors License required.
Minimum of three (3) years commercial electrical experience.
Low Voltage License, Certification, Experience desired.
Supervision
The Electrician reports to the Electrical Shop Supervisor.
