Purpose:

The purpose of this position is to provide maintenance to the campus grounds. This position involves performing tasks of a physically demanding nature.

Nature of Work:

Essential Functions

· Participates in labor support in all areas of grounds, including; grounds, structures, roads, walks, trees, shrubs, buildings and playing fields. General cleanup of property include; mowing, weeding, trimming, edging, raking, sweeping, watering plants, caring of shrubs, flowers, etc., seasonal outdoor work.

· Participates in equipment support including; trucks, lawn mowers, tractors, and other motorized equipment. Operation should include inspection of equipment with ability to operate equipment safely.

· Participates with other departments in labor and equipment support including; moving campus equipment and furnishings, dealing with coworkers, college personnel, students, customers and off-campus personnel.

· Services equipment, tools and college vehicles as required. Inspects tools and equipment. Follows all safety codes and standards.

· Administration of work orders and contract preparation pertaining to the garage maintenance.

· Maintains excellent customer relation with other departments, vendors, students and faculty.

· Reports to work as scheduled by immediate supervisor.

Exceptional Functions

Required/Desired Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

· Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instruction.

· Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse

climatic conditions.

· Knowledge of the materials, methods, tools, and equipment employed in the maintenance and care of grounds.

· Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of trucks, tractors, sweepers, and lawn mowers.

· Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions in general labor and maintenance work.

Required/Desired Education, Experience and Necessary Qualifications:

· High School Diploma required or GED.

· One (1) to two (2) years experience in ground maintenance work.

· Must have a valid Georgia driver’s license.

· Pesticide license beneficial.

Supervision:

The Groundskeeper reports to the Grounds/Auto Mechanic Supervisor.
