Working Title: Electrical/HVAC Supervisor

Working at a journeyman level position performing lead worker responsibilities. Work involves the performance of skilled tasks in accordance with standard trade practices in the installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of electrical systems, equipment and fixtures. In coordination with the Department of Computer Services, this position assists to insure that the infrastructure condition and operation of assigned local area network to each building, telecommunication, surveillance, and Energy Management Systems are functional.
Supervision (Direct and Contract Support)
· Supervision of personnel and direct hands on participation of the maintenance, repair, alterations and operation of electrical systems of the College. Supervision includes pre-inspections, post inspections, project approvals, sign-off, training and direct supervision of Trades personnel. Coordination of outside contract support which includes; scope preparation, contract formulation, contractor selection, negotiations, inspection, project approval, job completion, sign-off, punch listing of electrical and related systems. Responsible for contract administration, life safety, fire and smoke alarms, elevator maintenance, emergency power generation, clocks, telephone and local network communication systems and installation and maintenance of energy management wiring.
· Plans, schedules and supports the Director of Physical Plant on all electrical and communication systems including long and short range project planning of equipment replacement, preventative maintenance, contract initiatives, capital planning as defined by the facilities condition reports, and preparing cost estimates for all electrical and communication work. In cooperation with other College departments, is responsible for the location and installation of all temporary and/or permanent electrical systems. In addition, is responsible for the coordination, location and installation of all temporary buildings, structure and tents.
· Purchases and maintains inventory control of all electrical material and supplies. Researches availability and suitability of electrical related materials and equipment that meets prescribed standards. Initiates and maintains essential spare inventories and insurance stocks. Closely coordinates the upgrade of materials for cost effective management. Prepares and manages the electrical shop budge with emphasis on cost efficient philosophy.
Administration
· Processes, prioritizes, coordinates and schedules assigned project work as well as work orders to subordinates. Maintains records and inventory of various equipment and systems pertaining to; fire alarms, generators, electrical supplies, tools and other life safety equipment. General record keeping and correspondence to include the understanding and use of personal computer programs. Maintains the electrical shop materials and contract accounts. Establishes and maintains good customer relations throughout the College, City of Douglas and the community. Evaluates performance and appraisal of personnel within the electrical shop. Maintains close liaison with other shops and departments. Performs special or emergency needs of the College.
Personnel Relations
· Responsible for communication and cooperation with subordinates, administrators, department heads and other individuals involved with college electrical and communication systems. Maintain a positive attitude and relationship with the work forces and campus community. Maintains a strong personal and professional effort to accomplish all assigned tasks.
· Reports to work as scheduled by immediate Supervisor.
Marginal Functions
· Assists the Director in making decisions, evaluating, and formulating departmental operations, policies, procedures and goals as they pertain to the electrical and communication systems of the College.
· Performs other job-related duties as requested by the supervisor.
· Considerable knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment of electrical and low voltage systems.
· Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of electrical systems.
· Knowledge of local and state electrical codes.
· Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions.
· Ability to read and interpret drawings, sketches and diagrams.
· Skill in locating and adjusting defects in electrical systems and equipment.
· Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment of electrical systems.
· High School Diploma required.
· Electrical License or Certification required.
· Extensive experience as a journeyman electrician.
Minimum of five (5) years electrical supervision
Supervision:
The Electrical HVAC Supervisor reports to the Director of Physical Plant, supervision and general instructions are exercised over other electricians and electrical contractors regarding work to be done and proper work methods, inspections and trouble-shooting.
