This is manual work in the custodial care of institutional buildings and facilities. A worker performs cleaning and minor maintenance. Primary responsibility is for effective use of proper equipment and chemicals necessary for proper performance of his/her assigned duties. Works under close supervision, but must have a self-starter consistent in performing those assigned duties in his/her assigned area without constant supervision. Work follows established routines and procedures. Sweeps, mops and scrubs floors; dusts and cleans chalk boards and offices; washes windows, walls, trash cans, glass doors and classroom equipment. Cleans restrooms and replenishes supplies; cleans drinking fountains, and other general cleaning duties as assigned. Will do necessary cleaning for special events at South Georgia College as directed by supervisors.
Sweep, mop and scrub floors in assigned building and area.
Dust and clean administrative office and classrooms.
Wash windows and glass doors.
Empty trash containers.
Clean drinking fountains.
Clean restrooms thoroughly and replenish supplies.
Clean ALL entrances to the buildings.
Assist in special event setups (commencement, fund-raising events, misc.)
Flexible working hours and areas.
Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions.
Ability to climb stairs.
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
Ability to work with several different chemicals and how to use properly.
Analyze certain areas that need cleaning without having to be told constantly.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
The ability to comprehend and successfully perform oral and written tasks directed by supervisors.

The Custodian reports to the Manager of Support Services.
