Purpose:
This position is charged with providing information
services for users of the William S. Smith Library. Employee is responsible for
provision and oversight of reference/research transactions and
bibliographic/electronic information instruction as well as assisting with
assessing, developing, and maintaining the collection. Position requires some
flexible work hours, including occasional nights and weekends, as needed. The
Information Services Librarian reports to the Library Director.
Nature of Work:
Essential Functions
- Provide reference/research assistance.
- Provide information literacy and bibliographic
instruction through individual on-site, group classroom, and distance
delivery interaction.
- Create reference/research, bibliographic, and
information literacy instructional materials.
- Acquire knowledge in new reference tools.
- Assist with planning and conducting library
orientation programs.
- Assist in planning, coordinating, conducting, and
providing oversight for collection assessment, collection development, and
collection maintenance activities to meet the needs of students, faculty,
staff, and community users.
- Attend professional meetings and training workshops as
required to maintain awareness of current trends in library automation and
information technology.
- Perform
other duties, as assigned, that advance the mission of the Library.
Exceptional Functions

weekends, as needed. The Information Services Librarian reports to the Library
Director.
Required/Desired Knowledge, Abilities and
Skills:
- Knowledge of print and electronic information
reference resources and search strategies.
- Demonstrated aptitude for bibliographic/electronic
instruction.
- Detail-oriented nature with excellent organizational,
interpersonal, and supervisory skills as well as proficient verbal and
written communication skills.
- Energetic service-oriented personality with ability to
establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow
employees, students, faculty, and community users.
- Experience with automated library systems (preferably
Voyager), electronic databases, Internet, and Windows and other Microsoft
applications.
- Ability to lift and carry files and materials.
Required/Desired Education, Experience and
Necessary Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in an information related
field, is required. MLS or MLIS degree from an ALA accredited institution or
Georgia BOR-approved library school and academic library experience,
particularly in reference services, is desirable.
Supervision:
The
Information Services Librarian reports to the Library Director.
