Working Title: Director of Financial Aid

This is a professional and administrative position responsible for giving overall leadership to the department of Financial Aid which plays a central role in SGC's commitment to serving as a premier access institution.
· Counsels and assists current and prospective students and their families in matters dealing with aid availability and application procedures.
· Assists students with completing application materials for federal and state aid programs and scholarship opportunities.
· Promotes student employment opportunities.
· Works closely with other student services personnel to develop successful recruitment, orientation, advisement, and retention programs.
Updates the receipt of required paperwork into the Banner student records system.
Reviews all documents, including the FAFSA, tax returns, etc., necessary to determine a student's eligibility for aid.
Verifies the accuracy of information provided on applications for federal and/or state aid programs.
Monitors participating students' Satisfactory Academic Progress.
Monitors the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) to determine if a student is in overpayment of a federal grant or loan or is in default on a federal student loan.
Monitors the SURFER database to determine if a student owes a refund on a state grant or scholarship.
Packages aid to students according to federal and state guidelines.
Disbursement of Aid
Posts disbursements of federal and state aid programs to student accounts using the Banner student record system so that such aid can be applied to student fees.
Other Duties
Staff member primarily responsible for determining HOPE Scholarship eligibility for both transfer students and students ineligible as freshmen.
Monitors student withdrawals and processes Return to Title IV payments and HOPE refunds as required.
Reports PELL Grant disbursements monthly to the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) center.
Reports all state grant and scholarship payments each term to the Georgia Student Finance Commission.
Reconciles federal and state programs with both SGC Business Office and with external federal and state agencies.
Staff member primarily responsible for testing of software upgrades and setup of required software as needed.
Certifies enrollment for Veterans' Benefits eligibility.
Supervises staff of the Financial Aid Office.
Serves on various institutional committees as required.
Develops and administers procedures for financial aid programs.
Reports to work as scheduled by immediate supervisor.
Required/Desired Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
Ability to successfully meet the public, to create a favorable impression, and to establish and maintain effective working relations with other employees.
Considerable knowledge of System policies relating to Financial Aid.
Considerable knowledge of financial aid programs.
Ability to supervise and delegate responsibilities to others.
Must have good communication skills and the ability to complete tasks quickly.
Required/Desired Education, Experience and Necessary Qualifications:
Master's degree in Business Administration or related field required; 2-3 years working experience within a financial aid office, preferably in a supervisory capacity; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Supervision:
The Director of Financial Aid reports to the Director of Enrollment Services.
