Purpose:
Employees at
this level gather information, write appropriate articles, and collect images
about or affecting college activities, programs, or events for media outlets
and/or the college community. This employee will develop, produce, and edit
content to be used for promotion of the college and its activities.

Writes and edits appropriate
articles, news releases, or features (with appropriate photographs, if
applicable) for distribution to various media outlets

Regional, and National)

Radio/Television Stations (Local,
Regional, and National)

Wire Services
-
Trade Publications
§
Acts as a liaison between campus
news sources and news media

Responding to news and public inquiries
-
Arranging press conferences, meetings,
or special interviews

Manages content for South Georgia College’s
electronic sign
-
Assists in developing content for the
Department of College Relations
-
Brochures
-
Posters
-
Flyers
-
Programs
-
Advises printers in the selection of type
set, copy layout, and paste-ups
-
Assists web developer in editing content for
the college’s website
-
Supervises assigned personnel in gathering,
producing, and distributing content
-
Assists in development of content for SGC
In Action, the college’s radio/television program
-
Performs all other related duties as
assigned by supervisor

Required/Desired Education, Experience and
Necessary Qualifications:
-
Baccalaureate degree in journalism,
communications, broadcasting, public relations, or related fields.

Some night and weekend work required.

Advanced knowledge of publication and video
editing software
-
Microsoft Office products
-
Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop,
PageMaker Premier
PREFERRED
-
Two years of experience in public relations
or newspaper reporting, writing and editing, and/or broadcasting with an
emphasis on production
Supervision:
This employee
will work under direction and supervision of the Executive Director of College
Relations and Continuing Education.
