Mariko Nomura
This
is Markio’s second semester attending South Georgia College, and she says she
loves it. Playing on SGC’s softball team has been the highlight of her college
career. In addition to her studies, she likes to visit different places around
Georgia and Florida; touring different states has been a very interesting
experience for her as a Canadian. She has visited the homes of different girls
on the weekend, meeting all their families and learning about the Georgia
lifestyle.
Expected Graduation Date:

Robert A. McMath Secondary School

College
involvement/awards:
I play on the South Georgia Softball team. Coach Brunel has arranged various
softball activities that I participate in. For example I assist in softball
pitching clinics as well as coaching a tee-ball team for the spring tee-ball
league. Lastly, I am on the Dean’s List.
I choose to attend SGC because:
I was looking for a school where I could play softball, and Coach Brunel called
me. After I talked to him, I was very interested, so I looked up the school’s
webpage. After talking to Coach Brunel and some of the softball girls, they all
convinced me that it was a good and fun place to attend. Coach Brunel and all
the staff were very helpful in getting all my papers together, which further
convinced me that this school was the right choice for me.
My favorite things to do on campus are:
Play softball, hang around with everyone in the dorms or in the new Clower
activities center.
When I have free time, I:
Hang out with friends in the dorms or Clower center, study, and enjoy various
activities/places in town. I also enjoy watching the soccer and baseball games on
the weekends.
My favorite professor is:

I have really enjoyed all of my professors so far for all of my classes. One of
my favorites has been Frank Holiwiski, because he makes class very fun and
interesting.
If
I could spend an afternoon with anyone, it would be:
Everyone from home in Canada. Even though I love it here, it is a long time not
to see my friends and family. But it makes me appreciate Christmas time and
summer time that much more.
If I knew I would succeed at anything I put my mind toward, I would:
Be a teacher, because that is what I’ve
always wanted to do. I would want to teach children who needed more help than
others. Knowing I cannot fail would challenge me to do everything I could to
help anyone who needed it.
After graduation, I plan to:
Look for another school in Georgia to attend and play softball, or return home
and finish my Education program there.
The one SGC experience I will always remember is:
Traveling and playing with all the softball girls and coach. It has been an
amazing experience and I have met a lot of people with whom I will try to always
keep in touch. There have been many nights and weekends that I have spent with
the girls that I will never forget.
