Online PLU-Approved Courses for Teaching Professionals

In the state of Georgia, teachers are required to complete 10 PLUs every 5 years
in order to retain their teaching certificates.
South Georgia College Center for Continuing Education is now offering online
courses that have been approved through the Georgia Department of Education as
acceptable PLU units. Each of the PLU-awarding courses is six weeks in length,
with two lessons issued per week. One 2-week extension can be granted. A final
exam with a passing score of 70% will earn you 2 PLU credits.
You must complete the Prior Approval Form before you begin your course. It is
the responsibility of the student to maintain a record of prior approval for a
course. Please contact Amy Hancock at
amy.hancock@sgc.edu for the required form and have your System
Superintendent or Professional Learning coordinator sign it. Keep a copy for
yourself and also provide a signed copy to us by fax or email.
Note: If you are not currently employed in a school system, you may sign the
prior approval form. When you are ready to renew your teaching certificate,
attach your forms to your renewal application.

At the completion of the course and upon verification of mastery a "Completion
Letter" will be sent to you for your records. When you are ready to renew your
teaching certificate, attach your PLU certificates to your renewal application.
Prior Approval Forms may be sent to us via mail, fax or email or drop it by the
Office of Advancement on the SGC campus. Be sure to include a current address in
order for us to mail your completion form to you.
