Coach Robert E. Brunel

Brunel brings a wealth of experience as a soccer mentor to the coaching ranks of South Georgia College.

A 1991 graduate of LaGrange College in the western part of the state, he played varsity ball for four years, earning all-conference honors as well as an All-American Honorable Mention. Having had the opportunity to play allows him to impart all his knowledge to his players. A lifelong player coach Brunel continues to play on local, adult teams throughout the area.

In his first year at SGC, he has coached a wide variety of teams on several levels including two years as an assistant at LaGrange College, eight years at Wesleyan College in Macon, and three years at Georgia Military College. He has also worked in his spare time with numerous youth teams ranging from U-19 to U-6.

Coach Brunel is a genuine student of the sport. He brings not only years of playing and coaching experience to his work, but also a deeply intellectual appreciation of the strategies and complexities of the game. He has evolved over the years a style of play that is both exciting to watch and intelligent.

A strong believer in mastering the fundamentals, Brunel’s teams are well schooled, drilled, and trained. His players are required to work hard and maintain a high level of physical and mental discipline. They also learn to work as a team which also relies on individual initiative and extra effort.
