Beginning
in Fall semester 2009, South Georgia College will add men’s and women’s
cross country to its athletic program. In the Fall semester of 2008, SGC
fielded a cross country club that competed in several local events, with a
number of the club’s runners placing in their respective age groups. SGC
would like to build upon their success when the team moves into
interscholastic competition this coming Fall. The coach for SGC’s inaugural
cross country season is Robert Preston, Jr., who also serves as SGC’s public
information specialist. Coach Preston brings with him over a decade of
competitive endurance experience in a number of different sports, including
running, swimming and cycling. Coach Preston has competed in races ranging
from local 5Ks to
iron-distance triathlons to cycling time trials. He believes in hard work
and pushing past the limits, both physical and mental, that hold athletes
back from achieving their goals. Athletics is an excellent way for students
to use their talents and abilities to receive an education, and Coach
Preston would like to see each of SGC’s runners perform well enough in the
classroom and on the trails to continue their athletic and educational
careers at four-year institutions. If you are a runner interested in
learning more about South Georgia College’s cross country and educational
opportunities, feel free to contact Coach Preston at Robert.preston@sgc.edu
or (912) 381-0512. In addition, please fill out the cross country
questionnaire included on this page.
