FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - Career Mobility for LPNs to RNs

Who do I contact to get started to college?

Contact the Enrollment Services Office or the Division of Nursing at 1.800.342.6364 or 912.260.4358.

You must apply to both the Enrollment Services Office as well as to the Division of Nursing. A $20.00 application fee is required to Enrollment Services - there is no application fee to the Division of Nursing. You will need to submit to the Enrollment Services Office an application, official college transcripts as well as high school transcript or GED scores, and Certificate of Immunization.

You will need to submit to the Division of Nursing a nursing application, SAT scores as well as official transcripts from all colleges attended. We begin taking nursing applications after October 1 of the year prior to the year you wish to enter the bridge program. Application deadline is January 15.

What is the cost?

*$68.00 per semester hour for Georgia residents.
Example: A 3-hour course would be $68.00 x 3 = $204.00 (other fees not included).

Are financial aid and scholarships available?

Yes, contact Financial Aid at 912.260.4282.

Would I be required to complete admission tests?

Yes, the tests are for placement in appropriate courses.
COMPASS tests for reading, writing, and math
SAT scores are required for nursing majors.

Where would I attend classes?

The bridge class rotates yearly between Douglas and Waycross. In 2008, the class will be in Douglas. In 2009, the class will be in Waycross. After the LPN-RN bridge course, students may choose SGC or Waycross College to complete the nursing program.

How many days will I attend class, and will I be able to work?

Four days per week for the LPN-RN bridge class. Monday 9AM-3PM, Tuesday 8AM-4PM, Wednesday 9AM-12noon, and Thursday 9AM-4PM. The average study time for class is 3 hours study per 1 hour lecture.

Will my classes from the technical college transfer to meet general education requirements at SGC?

No. Transfer credit is granted only from an institution which is regionally accredited by the Commission on Colleges. Most technical colleges in our area do not have this accreditation.
