Division of Business and Social Sciences Attendance Policy
The purpose of the Attendance Policy of the Business and Social Sciences
Division is to foster those behaviors that facilitate student learning and
reflect greater individual responsibility.
- Students are expected to attend all classes, lab experiences,
workshops, and other scheduled sessions.
- A student may be assigned a zero for any assignment or exam
missed because of an unexcused absence. Grades may be lowered because of
unexcused absences.
- It is the student’s responsibility to make up any assignment or
exam that occurred during an excused absence. Failure to do so in a timely
manner may result in the student receiving a zero for that assignment or
exam.
- Students are expected to be in class on time and remain for the
entire session. Grades may be lowered because of violations. The instructor
determines whether absences and tardiness are excused or unexcused.
- It is the institutional policy of South Georgia College, which
must be observed, that children or dependents of students may not accompany
students to classes or labs or be allowed to remain in the hallways during
classes or labs under any circumstances.
- Pursuant to College policy as described in the catalog (page
65), instructors may administratively withdraw students before or after the
mid-point of the term when such students violate class attendance policies
distributed at the beginning of each new class. It is the student’s
responsibility to process withdrawals before the mid-point deadline for
receiving a W for the course. All withdrawals processed after the mid-point
of the semester, whatever their source, will receive a WF for the course.
- The instructor is responsible for implementing this policy.
- The following chart represents the number of unexcused absences
