Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)
The Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) is a component of the
Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Commission on Colleges (COC)
accreditation process that reflects and affirms our commitment to quality
higher education and to the proposition that student learning is at the
heart of the mission of all institutions of higher learning.
The QEP describes a carefully designed and focused course of action that
addresses a well-defined topic or issue related to enhancing student
learning. The theme of South Georgia College’s QEP is “Critical Thinking
through the WRITE Plan: Writing and Reasoning to Improve Thinking
Effectiveness.” The long term plan focuses on enhancing student learning by
concentrating on the relationship between five specific critical thinking
skills and the task of writing.
These five critical thinking skills are outlined in our QEP definition of
critical thinking and in the five student learning outcomes being focused on
and assessed.
Definition: Critical thinking is the process of drawing conclusions and
solving problems through evaluating, analyzing, making inferences, and using
deductive and inductive reasoning.
Student learning outcomes:
-
Students will demonstrate the ability to analyze.
-
Students will demonstrate the ability to evaluate.
-
Students will demonstrate the ability to infer.
-
Students will demonstrate the ability to reason
deductively.
-
Students will demonstrate the ability to reason
inductively.
